Tipo de Trabajo: Piezoelectric Sensor Elements for Structural Health Monitoring. The focus is on experimental investigation and analysis of the effects of temperature and time on piezoelectric sensor elements intended for long-term monitoring of structures. The main method is electrical impedance testing of laboratory-scale systems with an existing LabView based measurement system. For this part of the project, one position for IAESTE students is available. The student shall have a basic understanding of the time-temperature superposition principle, a strong background in material science or engineering, and previous, extensive experience with measurement methods and data analysis. Experience with fiber-reinforced composites and/or modelling is an advantage. The student will be integrated in a research team of researchers/technicians working in this field at the Empa Laboratory of Materials & Engineering

The main dependencies and tendencies should be worked out with regard to the component lifetime. The results need to be applied to future counter concepts and the consequences to be analysed. Basis of the analyses data are calculated in Excel sheets. Trainee Program Description (2) Continuous improvements of the thermal block of our gas turbines needs validation on the basis of field data. Subject of the trainee program is the analysis of existing information from field engines and their comparison with defined validation criteria. The Analysis methods use several influencing parameters. Basic information is provided in inspection reports and different databases.
